Animal Farm (1945) by George Orwell: Chapter 5

Animal Farm (1945) by George Orwell: Chapter 5

Bonus:

Even the kids have guns!

Summary: Mollie consorts with humans! She leaves and enjoys herself! Napoleon says the animals should get guns. They turn old Major's skull into Lenin's tomb.

Commentary:

The whole proletariat must be armed at once with muskets, rifles, cannon and ammunition, and the revival of the old-style citizens’ militia, directed against the workers, must be opposed.

I'm a firm believer that you can't be much of a socialist if you're in favor of more than the most minor gun control. Like, maybe registration? Can't let the state usurp the worker's power.

Other than that, we get a bunch more Star Trekking where everyone is mad at Mollie for choosing her human friendly lifestyle and this great quote from Squealer:

He would be only too happy to let you make your decisions for yourselves. But sometimes you might make the wrong decisions, comrades, and then where should we be?

Like wanting people not to be bald. Apparently that's all I'm going to harp on this book.
